Swimming

On the second day of camp, we will spend some time going for a swim at the pool at Engadine Leisure Centre. We will walk as one group to the pool (with one or two leaders driving a car in the case of an emergency). Campers will be supervised by leaders both in and out of the pool, as well as the trained lifeguards employed by the centre. All children MUST wear a rash shirt or some garment that covers their torso and shoulders while at the pool.

Lollies and Energy Drinks

Having some snacks on camp is all part of the fun, but we do ask parents to screen what your child packs in their bag. In particular, we have a blanket NO NUTS rule, so any snacks containing nuts are not permitted. Please also be mindful of the quantity of snacks your child is bringing, as we don't want anyone to get sick from too many lollies - one or two bags of chips/lollies will be plenty.

Energy drinks and soft drinks are NOT permitted on camp or in tents. If you are worried your child will be thirsty overnight, we suggest they pack a water bottle.

Tent Groups

On Summer camp we will be camping out on Hanley Field in tents! Tents can be pitched normally on the grass around the main area of the field, but any tents needing to go on the synthetic turf must be held down with bricks (provided) or other heavy things.

Children are required to form their OWN groups (up to 5 kids of the same gender per group) prior to camp. If you registered as part of a group booking, you do not have to form a tent group in that group.

If you are unable to do this, please let our leaders know at the registration table at the start of camp.

Devices

Electronic devices are permitted on camp, but we encourage campers to leave as much as they feel comfortable with at home. There won't be any time to use these devices and they must stay in tents at all times. Children bring their devices at their own risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is in charge?

Youth Matters is in charge of organising and running the camp, overseen by our Parish Youth Minister, James. Trained leaders from our Salesian Leadership Team will be running the activities and events throughout the camp. These leaders are passionate about influencing and encouraging the children in a positive and Salesian way.

Is it Secure?

Supervision is organised for the 3 days of the camp (including the nights) to ensure the safety and protection of the children. The campsite is fully enclosed by a high fence line and there will be no public access to the campsite during this time. Further to this, each leader will have a role to make sure all children are accounted for throughout the camp.

Are there alternative payment options?

The method of payment is through the parish website - www.bpoint.com.au/payments/engadineparish

However, if you would prefer we can also accept cheque or cash delivered in a marked envelope to St John Bosco Parish - 50 Waratah Road Engadine.

You will receive more details on how to pay through the registration form and confirmation email.

How does the group discount work?

For a group registration, you will need to register the names of five to ten kids at this form: https://forms.gle/FfPQhHTUaZwUYLcn8

The Parent/Carer of each child will still need to register their details individually with the normal camp form (https://forms.gle/gzShQM2xhQPkupsV8) but when you all go to pay for your children, you only need to pay $65 and leave a note with the last name of the person who filled in the group registration. All of these details should be covered on the group form and in the confirmation email. All of these links can also be found on our website.

Can I get involved?

While we have a great leadership team, we always welcome any help offered. The most useful time is at meal time, either serving food or preparing it. If you would like to help please get in touch. All parent volunteers require a WWCC (Working with Children's check).

Do I need to bring a tent?

When forming groups for your child to sleep in, please ensure that one of the campers brings a tent for the group to sleep in.

How will the tents work?

Children are expected to bring their own sleep gear, including pillows, mattresses/ sleeping mats & sleeping bags. The children will sleep in tents (in groups of no more than five), with boys and girls set up in their own areas. We ask that parents assist in the setting up of the tents upon arrival. Unfortunately, we are not permitted to drive pegs into the synthetic turf. As such, any tent needing to go on the synthetic turf will be held down with bricks (provided).

What if it rains?

The camp will still continue in wet weather. We have use of the Hall should we need shelter from serious weather during the day or night.
